Well, I know its been a while since our last update, but we have been SUPER busy behind the scenes upgrading our network, bringing another data center online, and upgrading the servers.

 We have several new servers and network upgrades to tell you about!  First, I want to thank those who helped bring our LA datacenter online.  Your hard work wont be forgotten.  With our new datacenter we will now be able to offer clients unmetered (not unlimited) and metered servers to fit your needs.

Next our new and improved network brings together some of the best Tier 1 connections in the world.  Just look at some of the connections into our Chicago center now:

NTT Verio, XeeX, XO, Tiscali, Internap, Comcast, Telcom Italia, and Hurricane Electric all have 10GB per provider, nLayer provides 2 10GB connections, plus ATT providing 1GB. 

This gives us a total network bandwidth of over 100 Gigabits per second. We are always looking for ways to increase the bandwidth available to you and redundancy across our network.  We don’t put all of our eggs into one basket!  Just look above.

In our LA center we are bringing you a state of the art facility that is seismic-retrofitted to protect your data from earthquakes.  The facility offers fully redundant power backup, including N+1 diesel generators, on site battery power system, 24 x 7 x 365 staff on site in the rare event that something occur, plus many more.

The network into our new LA center is also top notch just like our Chicago center.  Look at the details!

Savvis 2, Hurricane Electric, Xeex, Cogent, and XO all providing us with 2GB each. This gives us a total network capacity of 20 Gigabits per second. We designed the network from the ground up using top of the line Cisco and Foundry routing equipment to bring you the quickest path to the internet and out to your customers.

Well, our server upgrade went well.  Barely any downtime (if any at all), everything was up and running until it happened.  WE MAXED OUT AN 8 CORE SERVER!! Whoa!  I know, it’s hard to believe, but we have grown beyond the 8 core servers!

 Shortly after the move was completed we experienced explosive growth, which is great, but at the same time, it maxed out our servers!  So our monkeys came up with the idea of leaving some sites on the 8 core servers, and moving the others back to the previous servers we upgraded from.

While this does seem like a downgrade, it’s actually an upgrade compared to what was going on on the new servers.  The customers sites who don’t generate much traffic, or don’t have resource intensive sites, were moved back to the previous servers.  We decided to keep the older servers because at this point, there is no need for more 8 core servers online, plus its better for the environment because its not using as much power.  Which means less carbon emissions, and a better environment.

As customers sites grow, we will move those customers to the 8 core servers, and we will continue to add servers with more cores as technology progresses, and as need demands.

We are VERY sorry to have to move you twice, but overall, this will improve your experience with us.  As always, we invite you to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

The sites affected by the double move have been contacted and arrangements have been made to compensate them for their troubles.

To Our Valued Clients:

Our move to the new servers is largely complete.  We will over the next few days be tweaking some settings, upgrading some software, and making our servers the best servers on the market.  We tried to keep our downtime as low as possible, and I think we have sucessfully done that.

Our new servers now come standard with 2 Intel Xeon E5420 Quad Core Processors running at 2.5ghz with 1333mhz Front Side Bus and 24mb L2 Cache (thats 12mb per processor!!).  In plain terms, MUCH FASTER, MUCH MORE powerful processors.  We hope that we don’t have to upgrade for a while, but we stand by our promise of providing you with the best servers on the market!

For those of you with domains that are not managed by us, please update your name server records to reflect:

     ns1.paintballhosting.com is pointed to: 67.228.80.171
     ns2.paintballhosting.com is pointed to: 67.228.80.169

Also the new server IP address is 67.228.80.171.  Please update your domains with this information to ensure proper operation.

The move is going fantastic and we hope to send you the last email later today.  We apologize for the short notice of the server upgrade, and for your troubles, we will be giving all clients 1/2 month credit to your account.

To All Of Our Valued Clients:

We have some very exciting news for you.  We are upgrading our servers to faster, more powerful servers.  Sadly due to this upgrade, it will require downtime tonight.  We deeply regret that you will have downtime tonight, but to stay on top of the latest technology we must  have the downtime.

Also due to the server move, we also have to update our name servers to a new IP Address.  For those of you that allow us to to manage your domains, we will update this information automatically when the move is complete.  For those of you who do not have this service, you will need to update these on your own.

Also as you notice, this email is labeled 1 of 3.  We will send two more emails out about the move and upgrade.  Please expect these in a few hours.  The second email will include the new IP address’ you will need to use for your domains.  The third email will advise when everything is complete.

We hope that you understand the outage, and we also hope that you enjoy the new powerful servers.  The outage will start at approx 9pm EST and SHOULD be completed within 4 hours.  Please understand that it may possibly take longer.

It has been one very busy week here at Paintball Hosting.com.  We have changed server provides to bring you the biggest, baddest, best servers available on the market today.
